It is also ideal for measuring cooking oil temperatures when shallow frying and sautéing or to get a quick read on the temperature of simmering milk, soups or sauces. Unlike a traditional thermometer, an infrared one does not need to physically touch the surface of what it’s measuring which eliminates cross-contamination.
